Courtney Crary is a New York based performer, originally hailing from Montana. Her NYU credits include “Oh, What a lovely War!” (Hitchy-koo soloist) and 4@15 “The Royal Palm” (Syphillus). Other favorite credits include “West Side Story” (Maria), “Crazy for You” (Polly Baker), and “A Little Night Music” (Anne), and “Sweet Besty from Pike” (Betsy).
Courtney has been musically inclined since childhood, playing both the piano and the viola from an early age. As first chair violist in her high school orchestra, she planned to attend the University of Montana on a viola scholarship. However, a car accident left her unable to play the instrument during audition season, and she ended up auditioning for a vocal scholarship instead, which she was awarded. She then began working toward her Bachelor’s of Music with a degree in classical vocal performance from the University of Montana.
As a classical voice major, Courtney was seen in many operas, recitals, concerts, scene-programs, and cabarets. But, after being cast in the leading role of Polly in the University’s production of Crazy for You, she realized that musical theatre, not opera, was her true passion. After finishing her degree and appearing on the Missoula Community Theatre stage as Maria in West Side Story, she moved to New York to attend NYU Steinhardt’s Master’s of musical theatre and vocal pedagogy programs. Since then, Courtney has been seen on the stages of NYU, worked as an adjunct professor at NYU, and has begun planning her new life with her fiancé, actor/singer/writer Daniel Crary.
